Caribbean Permaculture Research Institute of Barbados
These folks are doing a kickstarter campaign to try to build a classroom, kitchen, and office.
Let's help them get this place going.
Here is their website: Caribbean Permaculture Institute of Barbados
Here is their Kickstarter page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1413679591/caribbean-permaculture-research-institute-of-barba
I can think of few causes better than supporting a PRI. This kind of thing helps people help themselves in a way that respects the earth. Check them out and if you like what you see, throw them a few bucks if you can spare them.
Thanks so much.

Mickey Mouse Gas Masks
"On January 7th, 1942, one month after Pearl Harbor, T.W. Smith, Jr., the owner of the Sun Rubber Company, and his designer, Dietrich Rempel, with Walt Disney’s approval introduced a protective mask for children. This design of the Mickey Mouse Gas Mask for children was presented to Major General William N. Porter, Chief of the Chemical Warfare Service. After approval of the CWS, Sun Rubber Products Company produced sample masks for review. Other comic book character designs were to follow, depending on the success of the Mickey Mouse mask.
The mask was designed so children would carry it and wear it as part of a game. This would reduce the fear associated with wearing a gas mask and hopefully, improve their wear time and, hence, survivability."--Source

On second thought, I'm going with creepy. Here's hoping that this century bears little resemblance to the last.

Meet Truthy
I don't know about you, but this gives me the creeps...
"The federal government is spending nearly $1 million to create an online database that will track “misinformation” and hate speech on Twitter.
The National Science Foundation is financing the creation of a web service that will monitor “suspicious memes” and what it considers “false and misleading ideas,” with a major focus on political activity online.
The “Truthy” database, created by researchers at Indiana University, is designed to “detect political smears, astroturfing, misinformation, and other social pollution.”"---Source

I wonder how long it is before it is adapted to automate censorship. Maybe the ChiComs can help on that end.
Ron Paul on Ferguson
...the warfare state, and how it points both outward and inward:
" America’s attention recently turned away from the violence in Iraq and Gaza toward the violence in Ferguson, Missouri, following the shooting of Michael Brown. While all the facts surrounding the shooing have yet to come to light, the shock of seeing police using tear gas (a substance banned in warfare), and other military-style weapons against American citizens including journalists exercising their First Amendment rights, has started a much-needed debate on police militarization.
The increasing use of military equipment by local police is a symptom of growing authoritarianism, not the cause. The cause is policies that encourage police to see Americans as enemies to subjugate, rather than as citizens to “protect and serve.” This attitude is on display not only in Ferguson, but in the police lockdown following the Boston Marathon bombing and in the Americans killed and injured in “no-knock” raids conducted by militarized SWAT teams."

Crypto 2.0
"Just when people were getting used to the idea that bitcoin might not be a boom-and-bust fad destined for failure, entirely new applications of the technology have joined digital currency on stage.
Crypto 2.0 – also know as cryptography 2.0, decentralized applications, or, popularly, as bitcoin 2.0 – is the application of block chain or distributed ledger technology to things other than digital currency. The block chain offers the ability to facilitate decentralized ownership and store, transfer and process information in a decentralized, programmable way. Many consider that innovation to be the true value of this technology."

Jello Biafra was a genius
His insight into foreign policy was just as sharp and in fact, nearly prescient. Check out this video, from the 80's as well, mind you. This isn't an official video and the references are updated to the early part of the last decade but, they are relevant again in the early part of this one.

McMoon's--"Dumpster diving for science"
"From an abandoned McDonald's in the backyard of NASA's Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California, a dozen or so volunteer scientists and engineers have taken control of a decommissioned, still running, 70s-era space satellite, currently some 20,000 kilometers away, by using discarded vintage space computers and a few sweet eBay finds.
The so-named "McMoon's" Control Center is some sort of bizarre testament to human ingenuity and what a bunch of very smart people with virtually no budget or proper authorization can pull off."

Current state of oil supply and demand
"We frequently see stories telling us how well the United States is doing at oil extraction. The fact that there are stories in the press about the US wanting to export crude oil adds to the hype. How much of these stories are really true?"

Sociopaths and politics
"the probability of the people in power being individuals who would dislike the possession and exercise of power is on a level with the probability that an extremely tender-hearted person would get the job of whipping master in a slave plantation.”
